 A friend of mine has a problem with his computer, where he gets repeat e-mails. That is to say, that when he gets an e-mail from somebody, he gets 3,4,5 or more, of the same e-mail. Also it seems that when he opens one of the e-mails that have the same subject & content, soon after he does, he gets another e-mail just like the e-mail he just opened. He's using Outlook Express 6, within Internet Explorer 6. He's using AVG 6.0 & it was just updated & a virus scan was run, showing no virus or infection. In addition to this, when attempting to delete some or all of the e-mails to clear out the mailbox & start fresh,, using the click, shift, hold & click method, for some, or the select all method, for all, the program seems to lock up, having to ctrl, alt, del & end task, then reopen the program & try again, & again, & again. We'd like to know what caused this to happen, & also how to fix it. Other than that, his computer works fine. He has a Dell, 64 MB Ram, don't know the model, guessing 300-400MHz. HELP !!!!!

    All email or just some?

My guess is just some of them and the problem likely is not him but is mail server on the 'net somewhere. You'd have to look at the mail headers in detail to try and track down the offending server though.

Your guess would be correct. Near as we can tell, it's only some, if not most, but perhaps not all. The e-mails weren't from just 1 person. E-mails I sent him were also duplicated, & I know I only sent each of them once. I recently helped my friend to be able to open different types of pictures & other attachments, in his e-mail.
He told me he also had duplicate e-mails, like he had once before.
On that occasion, he had other problems, so I reformatted his computer & reloaded the OS. I didn't want to resort to that this time, since his computer seems to be working fine other than that. Where exactly & how do I find these headers to find the offending mail server(s). I know how to R-Click the header for the subject & look at the details, so is it the 1st or last, somewhere in between, or is it Return Path, Received, from, what, & what do we do about it when we find out? I cleared out his entire mailbox, inbox, sent items, deleted items, & he hasn't gotten a repeat e-mail yet, but if he gets 1 or more, now or at a later time, we want to know what to do to solve the problem, & what exactly is the problem, & what causes it to happen? Any details would be appreciated.
