Hey gang, Elsie here. Still have no computer (from last month)

I'm using a slave at the moment and need to install my Office 2000 onto it. I have another version of Word in there, but wanted to start over.

My CD is in a case that has no product ID on it. Is there any way to obtain the Product ID from the CD itself ? Where would that be located ?

    Thanks for any help.

If any part of that copy of Office is installed, the Keyfinder you can download from http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml will find it for you....along with the Product Key for whatever version of Windows is installed.

The key is not on the CD. The CDs are generic and the product key is an algorithm sort of thing. That's why any number of different keys will work using the same CD.

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the utility you mentioned, but it only gives me the key to the version of Windows I'm operating on. Nothing about Office2000 Small Business.

So it's not found on the CD anywhere ?

Dang, I hate not having my own computer working. I really need to make new calendars and this slave I'm using won't load the calendar wizard unless I install a full 2000, which I have, but can't get past the product key entry.

    Thanks for trying though !

    Product keys...

There is a *free* program that can help you identify your product 'keys', as well as more info than you ever wanted to know about you computer. :D It's call Aida32. Download the Enterprise version HERE. This program does not need to be installed, so place it in an empty folder, start the program and navigate to 'Software' then open 'Licenses'. There you should see all the product keys that are on your computer. HTH

Unfortunately, Aida32, like Keyfinder, will only be able to find the product keys for software that's installed. Since the product key isn't encoded on the installation CD, the only thing left is to call Microsoft and see if they'll give you a new number.

Oops!! I thought Office was installed... sorry. Calling M$ is probably the only option, but not sure of the outcome.

Has this board admin any objections to me posting an Office 2000
product ID - not the CD unlock key !
I don't think there are any copywrite problems associated with
    a product key ?
    regards

Just call MS, there's a number on the cd itself else a number on the read_me file on the cd. I've called MS about 10 different times to get new product keys for cd's I have.

    Elsie,

Do you have the book that came with Office 2000? My Office 2000 CD doesn't have the product key on it either, but the book does.
