I hope someone has run into this before because it baffles me completely.

I just finished a format and reinstall of 98 SE into my custom box. Before I did, my MS ForceFeedback Sidewinder 2 joystick worked fine. (at least the last time I used it a while back)

This time, it was a real bugger to install as it took forever for the computer to find it (maybe 12 boots or more) and when it did, software was eventually loaded properly.

I loaded the software first as Windows had already found that I need a gameport joystick. It was, like I said, several boots later that Windows actually found the darn thing. Stick works in games just fine but no force feedback in any of them anymore.

I have been up &down, in & out, of every MS troubleshooting article about this USB device. I give up. I have removed it and reinstalled it in Device Manager. Removed & reinstalled the software. Name it, I've tried it. I am completely burnt out of options on this already. No change of sound card or anything. Checked and double-checked everything MS says it might be.

No idea how to fix this. I'm grasping at straws that someone here ran into the same thing or heard about someone who did.

    Anybody ??????????????????

    Randy

*I should add that after several days and reboots galor, the PC still hasn't found my USB webcam. My USB scanner took several reboots to find. I just gave up already and the next day it just up and finds the scanner for some reason. Never had so many USB problems. Stick is on 2 port USB card as well as scanner. Camera is on one of 2 ports in the MOBO along side my mouse which works perfectly. Maybe this helps someone figure it out.

Shark: Sidewinders don't work without the reset button hammered or drilled into the box!

Try the "toolbox" .... plastic explosives with short fuses are the best ...

Have you tried the Compaq Restore Disk?:(

Most likely burnt it out on the Prime Min.!

    Hi,

If you happen to not get the answer you're looking for here, try Microsoft. There have been several posters who have expressed their satisfaction using this service, albeit slow.

    Good Luck,

HHHMMMM !!!!! another messed up reload of SE.

Did this problem and the Blue Screen problem appear at approximately the same time.

And both after the reload ?

Could they somehow be connected ?

:( With M$ Windows most anything is possible.
