She can't get rid of it, or it won't get rid of it?

She could try restarting in Safe Mode

Run both updated scans of Adaware and AVG

If still no joy she could download Hijackthis
    Save to disk
Create a new folder on the hard disk, call it something
like HJT and unzip to that folder.
Open Hijackthis and do a Scan,, Save the log on your hard drive and then copy and paste the log here.

sciman--Could you describe that "duplicate" quick launch bar in a little detail? Is it duplicates of the shortcut icons in the same horizontal bar? Or another bar on top of the first bar containing the same shortcut icons?
Quick Launch is a folder. I do not know where it resides in Win2000 (I run Win98), but your friend might consider running a Find for Quick Launch. Does she find more than one Folder?
Also in Win98 if I right click on a blank spot on the Taskbar (at bottom of screen, which includes the Quick Launch area), then Toolbars, I am offered a menu. Is there more than one entry for Quick Launch checked?

Jim - 2K & XP keep it in the same, rather strange, location. Documents & Settings, your user account, application data, Microsoft, Internet Explorer, Quick Launch.

I saw this thread last night and tried a few things to see if I could replicate the problem. Couldn't. Tried putting a 2nd Quick Launch folder in the IE section - dup name so failed. Tried putting one in the M$ folder. No effect. Tried adding one to the All Users folder (since 2K/XP will use both your account items and the All Users items). No effect.

sciman--Thanks for posting back. Glad to learn the fix. If it recurs, you may want to look into the spyware angle. A scan with a spyware detector (with latest reference files) should be done regularly anyway.

    Thats Look2me Vx2 h.abetterinternet
From what I gather unchecking wont do,, and neither Adaware nor SpyBot target it correctly,, if its the latest variation

You can check by using the copy paste method i suggested earlyer,,, if a csdl show up there infected.
    csdl heres an example >
    {44BBA855-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015D}

There is a removal tool for it,, depending on the OS ,, But if placed in the wrong hands could do damage,, ie if they don't fallow precise instructions,,, really pretty simple though ?

Although this didn't happen to me, I read on another forum that installing Microsoft's latest security upgrade (828028 I believe) causes some people to get the extra toolbar.
