    Hi Everyone!

I hope you're up for a challenge, cause I think I have a real doozy of a problem.....either that, or I'm just missing an obvious configuration problem!

    Anyway, here's what's going on;

I posted here a few weeks ago because I was unable to left-click on links on SOME sites....it got to the point where I just right-clicked>open in new window on everything, just so I could read various newsletters, etc.

I also followed the routine from the MS KB281679 article about how to do the "regsvr32" troubleshooting, (which was also recommended to me by others in the IE forum), but despite 3 attempts, I wasn't able to get IE to behave.

It was then that I decided to make Mozilla my default browser, (I had it installed, as I used it occasionally, so I just had to make it my default).

All was working fine, until a day or 2 ago when I logged in here to see if there were any more posts about the IE problem. I saw that someone else had the same left-click problem, and they were using "Advanced Browser" because it was based on IE, and it fixed the link problem that they were having, so I thought I'd check it out.

I clicked on the link for "Advanced Browser "....read all the FAQs....downloaded it; scanned it for viruses; installed it; and I thought that all would be well....I had Mozilla set as my default, and I would use "Advanced Browser" as my back-up.....however; even though I have Mozilla set as my default, every time I click on a link in my e-mail; on any post in a forum; in any newsletter....no matter WHERE I click a link, "Advanced Browser" overrides my desire to have Mozilla as my default!!! It just takes over!!!

Is there something I need to make sure is checked or un-checked in the settings on "Advanced Browser" so that it only opens up when I ask it to??? I DON'T want AB to be my default.....I want Mozilla to be my default.

Any and all suggestions will be gratefully appreciated.....just use LOTS of details.....I'm kinda new at all this PC stuff.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Spookie,

    Advanced Browser FAQ

Click on "Tools" in the main menu, then click "Advanced Browser Options" then click on "Files and Protocols ". You will see a huge button that reads "Set Advanced Browser as the default web browser"

In your case, do the reverse of this step:
Click on it. Click on the "Ok" button. Click on the "Apply" button.

    Thanks, Ramona!

Thanks for showing me where to look to fix things....the only thing is, I had to UN-check all the little boxes in the files and protocols in order to keep Advanced Browser from "taking over" again.....it sure is a feisty little browser!!

By having those boxes UN-checked, does that make the browser useless for those times when I want to use it????
I also had to go back into Mozilla and reset it as my default; otherwise, Advanced Browser just took over again.

I have what's probably going to have a very simple answer, but there's something in the Preferences section in Mozilla that I have always been curious about, but I never had the nerve to ask anyone about; so here goes.....

What the heck is a DOM Inspector???? And, if I may ask another question......

What plug-ins do you recommend downloading, now that Mozilla is my default.....I still don't know what I'm doing when I set all those preferences....do you have any guidelines??

    Thanks again for the help!

    Hi Spookie,

Here are some links that will give you loads of information on the DOM Inspector. Basically, it's a web developer's tool:

    DOM Inspector FAQ

    DOM Inspector

    http://www.w3.org/DOM/
    Definition:
DOM - Document Object Model: The Document Object Model is a platform- and language-neutral interface that will allow programs and scripts to dynamically access and update the content, structure and style of documents. The document can be further processed and the results of that processing can be incorporated back into the presented page. This is an overview of DOM-related materials here at W3C and around the web.

As for which plugins to use:
Check out the Plugin Doc pages for more information: Plugin Doc - Microsoft Windows

This is as close as you'll get on a plugins guideline.

    Spookie,
this little brat is no better nor worse than Netscape /Mozilla. And some Mozillas were hijacking the default. Whenever this happens, you will find in Advanced|System that all boxes are checked off. Your browser is not useless if these boxes are unchecked, it simply means that Windows will not (preferentially) open web pages, and other files.
Have you tried Advanced Browser after making Mozilla default, once again?
I am going to steer away from Advanced Browser, if it cannot be controlled. Now, if you want to look at a browser which combines a lot of the Mozilla features with an IE engine, you should take a look at Avant browser. I have it opening Thunderbird mail, and I have not figured out how to make it default.
