    Hi peeps,

    I have just posted this over on the internet board but thought i'd try here too;

I cannot run AOL without having my 'Hardware acceleration' fully OFF (system>performance>graphics) otherwise my PC just continually freezes when online. I have AOL8 on Win98se through a BT Voyager 100 ADSL Modem.

    I wonder why this should be? Is it a Hardware issue or a software problem ? I run a Anno3d GeForce4 Ti4200 128mb AGP on a p3 1100 with 512mb SDRAM pc133 on a 100fsb.

Everything else on the PC works great with acceleration on FULL !

    Any pointers?

    Mick

First and foremost, dump AOL and get another ISP. See this thread.

    Jim,

Appreciate the sentiments but I never had a problem before going Broadband - unfortunately I still like AOL (yep - mug!).

    Hi Mick,

I really don't know what the problem might be, other than possibly not having the latest drivers for your video card.

I have a friend who was using AOL with cable broadband on 98SE, and she experienced no problems at all (other than all of the usual ones with AOL). She's been much happier, though, since switching ISPs.

I used to use AOL but found their philosophy to be too much "our way or the highway ". I chose the highway, and have never been sorry.

I do not know about AOL itself as I will not have it on my machines.

But I do know that AOL Instant Messenger alone puts stuff ( including AOL for Broadband if you are not careful ( VERY CAREFUL ).

I just upgraded versions of AIM for the kids today and Lo & Behold up comes Icons on the Desktop for both AOL for Broadband and Netscape.

This is why I will not let the kids do their own upgrading.

It seems that no matter what you install or where you get it they all seem to contain stuff other than the program itslef.

And the IS NOT just AOL

    Thanks Guys,

I went over to 'DSLReports' and found some interesting stuff there also !
