Im running xp pro I have MS Works 2002 that came with Office tools. I used to be able to update my office tools by inserting disk 1. lately ive been getting a message that says Unable to update this product for the following reasons: No Administrative Privlileges. Trouble with isp connections. Windows Installer Package may have been updated form version 1.0 to version 1.1. Some .msi files may be missing and need to be recached and can be found in a hidden directory %windir%\Installer(KB251214). I didnt have any problem finding the hidden directory. My Question is. How do recache that directory.

I went to the site you posted. That seems a little envolved. I dont know if i want go through all of that. I was thinking of just uninstalling the program if I can and try to reinstall it. Unless you have any other suggestions. I'm all ears.

Uninstall/reinstall should do the trick for you for this application.

I uninstalled Works. But Still get the word icon on my internet explorer toobar. There is still a Microsoft Office Folder in my C:\Program Files that i cant delete even if i go to administrator. I keep getting this error message. Error Deleting File Or Folder. Cannot delete MSOHEV.DLL. Access denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use. I had uninstall MSWord through the reg. Any suggestions. I'm thinking of just trying to get rid of everything associated with the works programs and not reinstalling it.

Try a safe mode boot and see if you can delete the things.

If not, CD boot to recovery console and you can use the del command from there. You'll need to know the exact path though.

Would the path be C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office.? Or C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\MSOHEV.DLL? Also tried safe mode no good. To get to the recovery Console Insert CD\Install windows\the first R is the console? Then type del C:\ProgramFiles\MicrosoftOffice\enter\exit?

I finally figured out what the problem was. DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH I forgot to uncheck the Read Only Box and click ok for all subfolders. So the Microsoft Office folder is deleted at last. Thank you for all your help it was greatly appreciated.
