Mozilla's supposed to always ask what I want to do with a file that I download. But starting today, when I click on a ZIP file on a site, it just downloads it straight away. It doesn't give me a chance to specify where I want to save it. How do I make it ask?

    Hi shadowhawk,

Edit | Preferences | Navigator | Helper Applications
    Highlight: application/x-zip-compressed
    Click the EDIT button

This will allow you to enable:

    Save to disk
Always ask me before handling files of this type

    HTH,

I made the change, but Mozilla still just went ahead and downloaded the ZIP file. It didn't used to do that.

    shadowhawk,

You enabled the "Always ask" and it downloaded without asking? Phooey!

    O.K., do this:
Clear the location bar and type in about:config
    In the "Filter" field type:
    browser.helper

You will see three entries, but the one we're interested in is:
    browser.helperApps.alwaysAsk.force

Is the Value of this entry "true" or "false "?

When I type :config it tries to go to a website. It doesn't load the configuration.

    Maybe this will help:

    Edit | Preferences | Navigator | Downloads
Check 'Open the download manager ".

    Edit: Or better still

Edit | Preferences | Navigator | Helper Applications
    Highlight: application/x-zip-compressed
    Click 'Remove' button.

I think Mozilla must be possessed. I removed the entry for ZIP files and it still opens it right up. I guess my only answer is to right click and save as. I just can't figure out what's changed Mozilla's behavior suddenly.

    shadowhawk,

Click on Tools | Download Manager
    Press CTRL+A
Click on the "Remove from List" Tab

Next: Edit | Preferences | Navigator | Download
    Select: Open a Progress dialog

    shadowhawk,

Try adding the Zip Helper Application again:

Edit | Preferences | Navigator | Helper Applications
    MIME Type: application/x-zip-compressed
    Description: WinZip File
    Extension: zip
Enable: Always ask me before handling files of this type
    Close and restart Netscape

Maybe this time it will work.

This may or may not be any help....If you go into your control
panel and double click on Folder Options-----Click on "File
types "-----scroll down to Winzip or zip=====Highlight winzip====click on the Advanced tab====
Is there a check in "Confirm open after download "?

I know that's a fix for IE, not sure about Mozilla

I looked and it is checked. So I guess my only solution is to right click>Save As. :(

    shadowhawk,

    Close Netscape
In your *.slt folder, rename mimetypes.rdf
    to mimetypes.old
Open Netscape and see if this helps.

Also look in your Helper Applications for this: application/octet-stream
    If listed, then delete

Otherwise, you might try creating a new Profile and see if this makes a difference, as something is definitely broken.

That did the trick, but now I've lost all my associations. Is there any way to copy them over from the old file to the new one?

    Hi shadowhawk,

Your old mimetypes.rdf file is corrupt, and you would be better served to start fresh with your Helper Applications.
