I was just posting a message and an ad popped up that covered the screen for something called Ghost City. I clicked the X to close the window and it knocked me right out of your site and that window took over. I had to go back to bookmarks and bring up your site again to see my message.

Do you have any control over what ads pop up while users are on your site?

    Gheesh, that was annoying.

    Hi Pat,

Are you perhaps talking about the GhostSurf Ad? That is a RoseCity Software offering. The RoseCity Software purchases help support WindowsBBS Forums.

I am a volunteer Moderator, Pat, and have no control over the popup ads. If you wish to avoid them, see this:
    WindowsBBS.com Subscription.

Thanks for the reply. No, it wasn't anything personal, just an annoyance at getting bounced off of your site. I wondered if the administrators of the site had any control over the ads. Oh well; that's life, as they say. :)

    Hi Pat,

Arie, our Administrator, no doubt has full control over the popup ads. I didn't take your comment as a personal or derogatory. remark at all. ;) I just wanted to make it clear that I'm only a hired hand...

    Hi Pat,

If you're using Mozilla web browser, there's a feature to block unrequested popups. Go to Edit > Preferences. On the left panel, open up Privacy & Security, click on Popup Windows. Put a check mark on 'Block unrequested popup windows'. The other two options you can check if you wish. Click on allowed sites and make sure there is nothing there to start off with. Click OK and OK out of the Preferences.

Please note that you may have some problems with some sites that need you to allow popups. If so then go to Tools > Popup Manager > Allow popups from this site.

If you don't like seeing ads, you can add an extension called Adblock. Learn about it from here.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Lee. I have Netscape 4.7, IE5.5 and Opera 7.23. I have been browsing almost exclusively in Opera lately. It's faster on dial-up. I used to use Netscape all the time.

When I know I am going to be accessing a site that has frequent pop-ups, I open a pop up stopper called "Clean Sweep ". It works on most pop ups, but isn't working on this site.

That's all right. The help you get from this forum is worth the annoyance. The people here are nice.
