I use WIn XP Home and am a single user. I never wanted separate usage as User or Administrator.

Yet, on some software, I am denied access to things because I am not administrator OR because I have not been given certain access by the administrator.

How to I get this system to recognize me as the administrator and the only user?

Give yourself admin rights. Control Panel->Users

  3. to hide this advert.

Hmmm... by default, the single user has admin rights. See this thread for more info.

I checked the control panel/user settings and found there was NO user account listed, just BOB as administrator
Incidentally, Johanna, in this setup I had no problem getting to Safe Mode OR Classic mode which I use all the time

I set up a user acccount as Bob K-user and also as an administrator, but I don't really want it. I want to be able to do everything anyone could do. I think if I log on as that user, I may be even more restricted

You have another account, hiding, with the user name "Administrator" and with a password you selected when you installed XP. Hit Control-Alt-Delete twice on the welcome screen, enter your password (if you have an OEM try leaving the PW blank if you don't know it) and log into The Twilight Zone. From that account, make a SuperBob account with full admin rights, and make it your default log in account. The real Admin account comes in handy when all your user accounts have gone awry.

I hit Control-Alt-Delete once and twice and both ways, I got a screen that I had never seen before allowing me to change my password that I had never had in the first place.

What do you mean by "log into The Twilight Zone "? Never got past the password change screen - I left it blank and accepted the non-existing change ( ?????) Nothing however changed unless I was supposed to shut down to effect non-existing changes. ( sounds like Twilight zone to me :)

How would I make what you call a Superbob account and what is it?

Was this, by chance, a log in dialog box?

Don't know - It was titled Windows Security About, on my 15" LCD about 6" wide x 5" high and had choices of:

    Lock Computer Shut Down
    Change Password TAsk Manager Cancel

In those locations with a Logon Date and "You are logged on as: with strange code and /Bob after it

It is my understanding that the administrator account in XP Home can only be accessed in safe mode. I have tried repeatedly to logon in normal mode, and although I can access the proper logon dialog box, it will not let me logon. Just to be sure your name has been propely given admin. rights, click start>run and type in; control userpasswords2
Should be in the administrators group.
