    Dear Sirs,

I am trying to ping my machine at home from my work machine and I keep getting a request timed out message. I have set the router config at home to allow pings which I thought was it and it still cannot be pinged..I am in the process of trying to remote control my pc at home occasionally but I keep getting nowhere fast. I have various softwares to do what has to be done but I would think I would have to be able to ping it as one of the First steps. This is really beginning to be a pain if you know what I mean. I have been over this and over this...Thanks much for your time here!!! Have a great day!!!!

    JD

Are you also running a software firewall at home? If so, it can and will often interfere.

Unless you have set up port forwarding on the router so it will pass all packets (by port number) to the PC you want to control, you won't have any luck. See the pinned NAT/router/firewall thread at the top of this section for details.

Make sure and disable block wan requests in the router if your pinging. That might be the glitch. You have to do that to do a ping test at dslreports.
