I dont know about the others But sygate free recommends uninsalling restarting then installing the new version,, ie check for update from within the program shows none available

They all seem to work better that way.

I asked on the Sygate forum about both of these points.

    1. When checking for updates via program = nothing  I was told there were problems with their update servers and to download via the website.

    2. I asked about having to re-install = this may only be necessary if you were having any problems with the older version; most users can just install over the old and select to keep all settings etc I have done this on 2 PC's and everything to date is running well.

To be safe I have backed up my settings by copying the following files found in the Sygate folder.

    default.dat
    stddef.dat
    StdState.dat
    tsysconf.xml

I have also exported my rules to have a backup of them should the need arise for a complete uninstall/re-install.

I was grateful at long last to have an update issued for the Trojan signatures as it has been quite some time since Sygate issued any updates for this library :( Thankfully I have my own Trojan program but was concerned that updates within Sygate are not as regular as I thought they would be.
