If I use MSN email is there any anti-virus software that will protect me? AVG doesn't cover MSN email (although their site doesn't, as far as I could tell, mention the fact), and I am beginning to wonder about Norton.

If neither of these is effective against email viruses do they protect against other intrusive stuff? If not, can you give me the name of some other software that I could use?

In fact, what exactly should I expect of an AV program - this sounds stupid, but I wonder whether I've just been lucky all these years, not properly protected at all!

    AVG does cover email scanner.
Copied the following from AVG's HELP:
    "Email scanner

If you want to successfully defend a castle, the best way is to watch all the gates. Emails with attachments are today’s most used way in which files are shared among users.

So in AVG we implemented an email scanner which tests all attachments as soon as they "cross the border" from the email server system to your mail client application. Of course normal on-access scanners can do the same work little later, but we try to warn you as soon as is possible. This also helps to prevent you from accidentally forwarding a virus infected attachment to a friend or colleague.

Remark: Please note that encrypted data cannot be tested with the email scanner. Infection in those files is caught after their decryption by the on-access scanner.

Email scanners use the same antiviral techniques as AVG itself. The only difference is that email scanners act automatically when emails arrive. There is no need to run a test or plan a testing schedule. "

    Hope this helps....

    Anti virus

Thanks, DeHen, but according to AVG itself, MSN email is not protected. I have installed eTrust, and it seems to be working fine.
