    Hi sutsujsti,
    • If you plan on uninstalling Netscape 7.01, use Add/Remove.
    • Once uninstalled, reboot your PC, so Windows can update the Registry.
    • Delete the C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape folder
Note: you may want to save your plugins folder, which can be moved to your Mozilla Program Files folder.

Uninstalling Netscape 7.01 will have no effect on your Profile data. When you install Mozilla, it will pick up your Netscape Profile.

This is only if you have no other versions of Netscape or Mozilla installed, and have experienced no problems with your current Profile.. If you're upgrading because of problems with your Profile, then you should create a unique Profile for Mozilla.

If you plan to keep Netscape 7.01 installed, then you can do one of the two following steps to prevent Mozilla from picking up your Netscape Profile.
    • Create a new Profile before installing Mozilla
      OR
    • Move your Profile Name folder to a temporary location before installing Mozilla. Once Mozilla is installed, and you have created a Profile for it, then you can move the Netscape Profile Name folder back to the Profiles folder.
Please post back if you have further questions.

thx Ramona for the reply the only trouble im having in netscape is the junk mail filter! it will mark everything but wont move it to the folder so to work around this i setup filters for everything! and use my inbox for junk so i guess i should use the 2nd option! Right ?

    sutsujsti,

You will see an improvement in Mozilla 1.6 with that particular Bug. You can still use your Netscape Profile.

You should use your Junk folder for Junk, once you get Mozilla installed. Set it up through Mail & Newsgroups | Tools | Junk Mail Controls

As you know you have to train Junk Mail before it finally kicks in.

    Hi sutsujsti

Look at this Screen Shot, and see if this is how you have set up your Junk Mail Controls.

    sutsujsti,

Something must be corrupt then. With Netscape and Quick Launch closed, delete the training.dat file. It is located in your *.slt folder. If this doesn't help, then I would suggest creating a new Profile. If you need help with that, here is a guideline on Creating a New Profile

    sutsujsti,

Those files should not be associated with Nero. Somehow Nero has taken over the DAT file association. I have no experience with Nero, but is there someplace in the Nero Options or Preferences where file associations are set?

    sutsujsti,

Take a look in your Registry for the .DAT file association:
    Start | Run
    Type: regedit
    Expand: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
    Scroll down to .DAT
In the right pane is Nero listed under "Data "

well I created a new profile! the junk mail is working again HURAH!!!!!! but what a job! got most of my email back in the new profile; I never liked working with my profile I guess because I have not done it verry much. The only thing that I have not done yet in get my filters in yet , But they can be made as the email comes in. After I get all working the first thing im going to do is get rid of the other profile! its messed up!!!! I dont know why nero had taken over the dat files but will look in to it I opened nero media player and it has dat listed but havent figured to un assoiate it yet
thanks for all of your help PS mozilla is great seems faster than netscape but I have only been using it for a short time will let you know more as i use it

    sutsujsti,

I'm so glad that all is well! Remember, it takes weeks to train your Junk mail so don't be too impatient.

On your .dat file association. I can tell you how to unassociate your .dat file from Nero, but it will require a Registry edit. If you are comfortable diving into the Registry, let me know, and I'll give you the information.

When I installed WordPerfect on my PC it took over my .dat file association. I searched around until I found the Registry edit to which I refer.

    Hi sutsujsti,

For now you can just move the old Profile to a temporary folder. If you have created a backup folder, that would be a good place to store it. After running your new Profile for a week or so, if everything is as it should be, then you can delete the old Profile from your backup folder.

After moving the old Profile to its temporary storage folder, then you can also delete the old Profile in the Profile Manager.

Before deleting anything, ensure that you make frequent backups of your new Profiles folder.
