    Help Ramona,
You have been a life saver before!

Anyway I went to change my email address, and I was going to just go into Mail 7.1 Account Settings, and change my current User Name to the new User Name.

Well to make a long story short...I added an account then deleted it thinking I could just rename my old account with my new user name and password...but no. I wanted to do this because I did not want to change all my subfolders in my old account the way it was set up.

When I did this I can't get back my old User Name. Whenever I try to change it back under "Server Settings" while in "Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings" it says "the User Name is already in use, please use another name ". Also if I try to add the account the same problem occurs.

Is there an easier way to fix this without going back in and recreating the whole account and remaking the USER PROFILE again.

    :(

    Hi vortex,

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to your Mail Account folder. How many accounts do you see listed? Do you see ISP-1.net, ISP-2.net, etc.? Open each of the folders and look in the Inbox file (without the MSF extension). Scroll to the bottom of the file, for the most current mail. You can then determine which folder contains your default mail.

Once this is determined, then in Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Server Settings, point the Local directory path to the folder which contains the default Mail Account.

I'm thinking that the Local directory path is pointing to the Mail Account you created, then deleted...

Let me know if this isn't clear.

    Ramona :D

    Fixed User Name Problem...ha

Ok, wow Ramona, that was fast reply...thanks.

The pointer was not the problem.

Apparently "a bug" in Netcape Mail is if you use "Account Settings" and rename your User Name, then want to go back to the old one it will not let you. This is probably because the old User Name is stored in the USER PROFILE and when you try to get it back it says " This user name is already in use, please user a different user name ".

So I tricked it....my old User Name was, for example, fritz. So to get this back, don't type in fritz, just change a letter to a capitol, like Fritz, then it thinks this is different and allows it to continue. The small or large caps won't make a difference apparently when it checks the email and everything works.

    :p
