    Hey,
I have a good freind that likes to play WarCraft III with my roomate and I from his house via the internet with a small progrm on his end that routes broadcast packets over the internet allowing us to play as if we were on a LAN. He puts both my roomates and my public IP into this program and hosts the game everything goes fine. However not long ago I purchased a Linksys BEFSR41v3 Router. Both myself and my roomate are hooked up to this router and then the router is hooked up to the cable modem. I set up port forwarding to forward port 6112 to both 192.168.1.152 and 153. That worked for a little while and then it crashed the router. I need a way to have a public IP for both myself and my roomate. The way it is currently set up there is only one public IP for the both of us. Is there a way to do this with this router? Before I bought the router I used an SMC 12 port switch with us and the cable modem plugged into it and it works fine. Any ideas?

    Thanks

I set up port forwarding to forward port 6112 to both 192.168.1.152 and 153.

I'm surprised you were able to do that at all and not surprised it gave the router heartburn.

As long as your friend is starting things from his PC, I don't know of any way that NAT can allow both PCs at your place to play.

Even if you were starting things from your end, I'm still not sure it could be made to work on both your PCs plus one on the internet in a full 3 way conversation.

If the game is important enough, you'll have to go back to having a pair of public IP addresses and just use the switch part of your device like it was a fast, smart hub (which it is).

afterthought - there may be a workaround but I need to check a few things and do some thinking so no answer from me before tomorrow evening. If anybody else is up on VPN, I'm thinking about the possibility of having the remote friend tunnel into the network and then they could play just as if all three were on a single LAN. If you know how to set this up, it would save me some brainwork which is always nice. :)

Would a VPN forward broadcast packets through all the routers envolved here?

    Hey

If your router is a new type and is it Unp&p compatible if so could you not install this on your pc and enable it on the router so the router can do all the port forwarding automatic...

    flack :D
