After installing service pack 1a my pc takes a long time to reboot. All my USB devices no longer function to the point they are not even receiving power. Also I can not access the web at all. Internet explorer attemtps to connect to ip addresses and informs me that it could not resolve the addresses. i tried updating my dns entries and this had no effect.

Does anyone know of what might be causing this, or is there another way to enable USB 2.0 support in Windows XP home without downloading the service pack?

No way to get USB 2.0 support w/o SP1a.

Here is a list of post SP1a patches and hot fixes. Some serve to fix things that the SP could break. I saw several that you may need & benefit from.

Also be a good idea to take a look at Black Viper's pages on XP. Quite a few options for things that are set to auto-start that you can probably live nicely without and help your boot speed plus the speed while you are running.

well i got the usb 2.0 to work by reinstalling the drivers post service pack installation. I have no idea why microsoft requires the service pack to enable 2.0 but oh well I have to live with it.

I still can not access the web however. The problem exists not only in IE but also in Mozilla, Mozilla informs me that my connection was refused. while IE tells me it was unable to connect. I am however able to use some other internet based programs like instant messaging and filesharing, so the problem is limited to just the web. have not found a solution yet.
