I run ADSL from BTopenworld, but when I go to their diagnostics page to stream video while zonealarm is running the 384kbit/s video clip on TCP runs fine, but when I select the 384kbit/s video clip on UDP my windows media player will time out.

I can only cure this problem if i shut down zone alarm, even then the UDP clip will start to run at 390kbit/s then drop to 212kbit/s (i have tried running udp video clip while pass lock in zone alarm was selected, no luck, still wont play) but i dont really wont to be online without security of zone alarm.

Is there a way around this in zone alarm, or is there an alternative to zone alarm that does'nt have this conflict?

    All help greatly appreciated. :)

If you know what UDP port is being accessed, you should be able to configure ZA to open it. This, however, leaves it open for naughty uses.

This is a problem with firewalls. They're basically stupid, and they're on or off. An Intrusion Detection System allows leaving a port open, but checks what's coming through it.
