    Hi, I can not open windows, I get a message that say;
    "A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer Error code 0X80090006 ".
    I click ok but I can not log in to windows to do anything.
    I did a search and it said that it can be a bad system restore or problem with a partition size. But i did not use a restore point lately and I only have one partition. Anyway they suggest to boot in safe mode and restore a point, or do a windows xp upgrade (repair windows), my only concernis if this solution are good for my problem since like I said I only have one partition and did not use a restore point.
    The only thing I did lately is to defrag my pc with a defrag program, other than the one from windows.
    Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thank you

    Hi caraloca
    Your best bet would be to boot from the CD and use the repair feature.

    Put your CD in it's drive...and boot up. Wait for the instructions to "Press any key to boot from CD" . Do so.

    You'll get a screen that says:

    To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER. (This is the one you want...so press enter.)

    To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

    To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
    Press ENTER to set up Windows XP.

    Then a screen will come on asking you to agree to the licencing, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

    Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

    Follow the instructions on the remaining screens to reinstall. After you repair Windows XP, you may be required to reactivate your copy of Windows XP.

    Please follow the forum's Posting Rules. Rule #3 calls for a meaningful title to your topic - something that describes your problem.
