I just tried to install the downloadable upgrade to MS Office Professional. As soon as the installer routine started, it asked me to insert the "MS Offfice Professional CD ".

It looked at the CD I inserted, then repeated the question, so I tried the other two CDs that came in the package. None satisfied it, so it refused to install the upgrade.

It then told me that the file it wanted, and couldn't find, was PROPLUS.MSI. I searched my system and all the XP CDs I have, and none of them contains that file.

Is it one I can download, or is this a Microsoft failure? I don't know if I need to install the upgrades, but it's a bit annoying that Microsoft's own software is incapable of updating itself - it's not as if this is a pirated copy: I paid (a lot of) good money for it.

    Hi keithj!

I have recently made the same experience and on my Office XP Pro CD, the file is located in the root. To make things easier, I copied that file to my HDD to avoid getting the CD out each time. That´s when I made the second experience that PROPLUS.MSI is not the only file needed from the CD but also OFFICE1.CAB

Thanks for that. I double-checked my three CDs and PROPLUS.MSI isn't on any of them. They're labelled "Microsoft Office XP Media Content ", "Microsoft Office XP Professional ", and "Microsoft Publisher ". All three are Version 2002.

They all have the flashy holographic stuff on the front of the CDs, and they came with two different Product Keys on the packaging - one for "Office" and a different one, as I found out by experience, for "Publisher ".

Looks like I have a rogue copy :-(
