When I right click click on my IE toolbar I have a item named lyrrprdjth. I dont have it checked as I dont want it but if I check it then IE adds another search bar to my browser. How can I remove this item? Thanks for any suggestions. I have done a search and can find not files with this name.

Download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot and/or AdAware. Read the help files to familiarize yourself with how they work. I recommend you use them both since each tends to find things the other misses. Let them clean up any spyware found.

Then, to be doubly sure, download and run CWShredder (link to the download is near the bottom of the page).

That should get rid of it. Post back with the results.

    I wonder..
does it look like the screenshot attachment here
    http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=9871

the name will be random if my understanding is correct

[pictures are worth a thousand words sometimes]

Please dont fix anything yourself without assistance ,,becouse each log will be differantt,, if you do get hijackthis..

Provided you have ran/updated both SpyBot and Adaware , schredder and restarted the PC since then

Post a log from HijackThis so one of the experts can see
    what's going on.The current version is 1.97.7
    [created by merijn bellekom]

    Get it here
    http://www.net-integration.net/tools/hijackthis.html choose save, NOT OPEN
Unzip it to a PERMANANT folder, Close your zip program, double-click HijackThis.exe,
    and hit "Scan ".
When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, load it in Notepad, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless, even essential,DON'T fix anything yet please.[/size]Also If you've used it before please dont have anything excluded

Thanks I think the suggestions will work. I am having trouble updating my ad-aware and downloading cwshredder but am working on it. Will get back with you once I get updated and run the programs. By the way the toolbar hijacker does look like the one on the link. Great picture looks just like the search engine that my browser has. Once I get all suggestions applied I think I will be okay. Thanks and I'll reply back soon to let you know how things are progressing.
    Thanks:p

Miz ,, forum what do you think ?
maybe a zip assiociation is goofed up or a hosts file is in use

    Try the exe downloads
remember download not open,, and put them in a permant folder
like a new folder within the my documents folder
Here are the instructs for schredder
    CWShredder
    CWShredder
Save it to your hard drive,,Unzip and Open -> doubleclick cwshredder.exe
always check for updates first then -> click 'FIX' button.
Wait while it scans your PC. It will then list what you're infected with. Hit "Next" Again and you're finished.

Reboot after doing so and Post a hijackthis log
    HijackThis
Please fallow instructions in my last post

Not sure what to think ,,you sort of contridict youself
do you have Adaware installed or not ? :)

    Let us know

Also try right click on the file you want to download > 'Save target as'

Alternatively if you have access to another m/c download there and burn to CD.

The icon you get when you try to download a file...is it a white square, looks like a piece of paper with the top left corner turned down, with a red, yellow and blue cube within it? If so, the MS KB article, Error Locating Object Handler has the answer.

It may be that the very thing you're trying to get rid of...that toolboar...is causing the problem with downloads. If PeteC's workaround lets you download, you may not need to delete the registry key the article refers to.

Just got home from work and am going to try new suggestions. I will let you know how things work out once I try them.\
Sorry for not being clear about my download. I was able to update SPBot, I have a copy of AD Aware but couldn't download any updates to AD Aware or CW Shredder. I was getting the description that Lonny gave in the upper left hand corner.
Thanks and will get back with you later.

I'm Still not able to download CW Shredder. Also noted that Icon I'm getting is a white piece of paper with a Red Square, Green Circle and Blue Triangle. It does not have a folded down edge.
Sorry about that. It also does nothing if I click on it. Also was not able to Right Click on File and SET TARGET AS as this option was not available. Also still can't download Hijack this either.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

Often enough, a browser hijack will only affect the current user. If you have another user account, try using it to get your downloads. Maybe even the guest account if no other users.

Sometimes they also will only keep you from getting removal tools, but will allow other downloads. Try d/l another browser, perhaps Opera, and get downloads for cleanup tools from it.

Just to be sure ,, what happens if you right click save as on those links I posted

and also just checking you are able to run Spybot,, meaning it doesnt close as soon as you open it ?

sounds like you have CWSredder but cant check for updates ?
if its version 1.47.1 theres no need to update,,If update from within the program doesnt work just download another copy from the same link we posted, it will be the latest..
Just replace the older on over writing it.

are you familur with regedit ?

I am having CW Shredder and HijackThis downloaded to a disk on a different computer and then will try them here. I did try on a differnt log in but still couldn't download.

I was trying to update my Ad Aware but couldn't download anything.

I never have been able to download CW Shreddero HiJackThis.

Once I get those from a CD I will let you know how things come out.

I am not very familiar with regedit but have been in the registry before but don't like to be there if I don't have to.

Let you know later how thing come out.

    Thanks.

Was Able to get programs off of Floppy disk from another computer and run them. I posted a log on Hijack this and was able to remove items and toolbar that was giving me the problems. I'm still not sure if my downloading is working right but did a search and found CWShredder on my computer so I guess it did download in addition to the one I had on the floppy.
I still was getting the icon in the corner of my page I described earlier but everything else is working great.
I will continue to check on my downloading at another time and if I am having problems will open up a new Post.

Thanks so much for all the help.
    :)

possible cause for having problems downloading CWShredder and Hijack this:

there are two different links to CWShredder in this thread.

The first one in Miz's post is the "normal" link

Further down in Lonny's post it's a different link, the "direct" link - this is the one to use if the "normal" link doesn't work -

    "direct" CWShredder download link

the site mentions that certain CWScam malware nobbles the normal link; the instruction is to use the "direct" link to obtain CWShredder.

Then run CWShredder - it removes the malware that stops you getting to the normal download links - (and also it seems knocks out quite a lot of spyware-busting software, access to spyware forums, AV software etc.)

I wonder if that might be what's stopping you getting the "normal link" to work?

    best wishes, HJ.
