When I open a file listing WITHIN AN APPLICATION PROGRAM (i.e. not within Windows Explorer), is there a way to set Windows to have the default file listing set to "Detail" rather than "List "? With almost all the application programs I use I am needing to access files on my computer (e.g. attaching a file to an e-mail message, viewing images, reading PDF or HTML or Text files, etc.), and I always want the "Detail" view, never the "List" view, with which all my application programs open as the default. Currently I'm having to change that view several dozen times a day. Is there a way within Windows to set it once and for all for the entire system? I notice that someone asked this same question specifically about Netscape under a thread there, but didn't get an answer. For me the issue is relevant to just about every application program I use. For me, being able to see such information as the date of the file, the file size, etc., is essential to my uses.

In window you get when you use File>Open, in the upper right-side there is an icon which, when you hover the cursor over it says, "View Menu." Click on it and click on "Details" for the view you want.

No, I want "Details" to be the default

Perhaps I didn't explain myself well. What I am doing NOW is File ---> Open ----> View ---> Details, dozens of times per day, because the default file view is List. What I am wanting to do is have the default file view be Details, so I don't have to go through all of these extra steps dozens of times per day, especially since I alway want Details and never want List in the first place. Is there a way to set Windows so that, within application programs, the default file view is Details?

How to set this in application programs rather than Windows Explorer?

As far as I can see, or at least on my system, doing "Tools>Folder Options> View tab> folder views set and apply to all" only sets the view within Windows Explorer and not within application programs. Is there a way to set the default file view within application programs?
