my grandson had a cd game in my comp which enlarged the screen resolution - when he turned off the game after playing the resolution would go back to normal - the last time he used the cd the resolution will not go back to the normal resolution - so every time that I sign on I have to manually change the resolution - I select the correct resolution then press apply and then ok and as soon as I shut down and then turn back up again I have to reset the resolution again - can anyone help me on this??

Suggest you try reloading the video drivers.

Please use a descriptive title to your threads which reflects your problem. Far better chance then that somebody will stop by and assist. I have edited it

OK, Birdriver - we'll take this step by step :)

Have you a video driver CD which came with your PC? This will be labeled ATI, Hercules, Matrox, ......... and should have the word 'Video' on it ??

ok PeteC - I do not have a Video CD driver "only"
I have a Dell system Inspiron 2650 that has Microsoft Windows XP - comp came with several "silver" cd's with diff programs and then I have 2 other cd's
one is headed Operating System for "Reinstallation CD
    and the other
"Drivers, Utilities, and Applications for Reinstalling Dell Inspiron 2650 System Software "

you may be thinking to yourself why not ask Dell about the problem - well I have and have had no luck - so thought would try a different way - so here I am - and now where do I go from here

(am I still not posting this to the correct sight???)

OK - the video driver should be on the
    CD

BTW, IMO you are in the right forum :D

Pop the CD into your CD-ROM drive and see what options are on offer, and post back.

If you look at the contents of the CD in Windows Explorer do you see a folder labelled Drivers > Video or what ??

We'll take this very steadily as it is clearly not a major problem.

It's late here now and I have an early start in the morning so will have to pick up this thread tomorrow evening (UK time).

In the meantime please outline exactly what you did to reinstall the driver.

Thanks for that info - you did everything just right :)

This puts a slightly different slant to your problem .....

Did the game your grandson played on your m/c have an install routine - in other words did you/he have to setup the game on the PC from the CD before playing it - I guess so.

It may be that the configuration files for that game are causing the resolution problem. I suggest you uninstall it if possible .....

Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and scroll down the list of programs until you (hopefully) find it -click on the entry to highlight > remove.

BTW - what is the game? Probably won't mean anything to me but somebody else may pick up on this.

game is Zoo Tycoon - I have already uninstalled - did it right after the problem came about - what I was thinking is maybe I should re-install it and go from there - maybe its stuck on something - I dont know am just grasping at straws - the problem only comes about after I log onto the internet - then I have to do the reset - its not that its causing bad problems its just a nuisance - will have to get the cd back from him and see what I can do - if you think of anything else I can possible do - I would like to hear about it - I thank you again for your help on this one !

Yes, that is one game I have heard of :D - and it's MS.

Just a couple of final thoughts -

A reinstall and uninstall might fix the problem, but it's doubtful .

I'm puzzled that you now say the problem only occurs after you log on to the Internet.

Try a new thread in the Other Software forum ' Have to restore screen resolution after running Zoo Tycoon ' or something similar and mention that you have reinstalled the video drivers and please be clear about the Internet.
