My XP PRO in Internet Properties has Notepad as the HTML reader. I don't understand that. Can I put Frontpage instead as in W98? Am I missing something? Can that be changed or should I change it, if so how do I change it?
    Thank you,
    Pam

Notepad is an excellent html editor for those that want just the basics. That is why it is the default reader.

If Front Page is available in the dropdown menu, it is fine to change it to whatever you want.

There are also many free html editors whose setup puts entries in that menu.

Thanks, I wasn't aware that notepad was a html reader. I thought it was just text. Obviously, I had looked no further.

Notepad will read just about any file, so long as it isn't too large. Then Wordpad can take over.

If you have a small, unknown file, open it with Notepad sometime. Often you will see informative text, and sometimes just computer code or encrypted material.

When you right-click a web page and choose "View Source ", it is Notepad that opens to show you the code.

Hi, you'll have been so kind in answering my question. Thank you very much. I had thought the actual graphic, ect. would come up, not just the code, so this is something I wasn't aware of.

If you want to use Frontpage as your html editor and it doesn't show in the options in IE, you can use Tweak UI to set it as the default. If you don't have it, download and install it. In Tweak UI, click the plus next to Internet Explorer to find it.
