I have a server that seems to take it self off the network every Sunday. When folks attempt to access it on Monday morning they cant untill it is rebooted. The server does daily backups to another server that it has a mapped drive to. It does its Saturday backups just fine but the Sunday backups show an error. Can anyone give me any advise on this. Please reply by email if possable.

    Thanks
    Greg

Greg - we need to keep the thread on the forum. More folks get a chance to offer help that way and anyone later on with a similar problem who views the thread will know what went on.

Any clues in your event logs?

I will have to get back to the server and take a look as it's one of many I have out in the field. Seems to me that I had some kind of time synce error, but that's about all I could tell. Something, and I don't think its hard ware, is taking it off the network. It way to consistent, no trace of it being a random event. What makes me mad, is that this is a new install and I didn't know that Micro Soft didnt have free support for the first indicent. I will cost me 280 bucks to make the call. For now I will have my folks reboot on mondays. I will figure this out with the help of folks here.

Are you using w32time and pointing all your servers to a single source that keeps good time?

2003 is fussier about it than 2000 for sure and AD demands the time be the same where NT4 really didn't care very much.

If your servers aren't recording failure andsuccess events for the time synch, there is a command to force it and by tomorrow I may even remember it. Can be useful for tracking down this sort of thing.

To be honest I'm not sure. We only have two servers on that site and one is a snap server which is a net applance type. Im going to do a reboot today and see if it a sunday event or a 7 day event.

We were pretty much at a stopping place waiting on information from you following:

"To be honest I'm not sure. We only have two servers on that site and one is a snap server which is a net applance type. Im going to do a reboot today and see if it a sunday event or a 7 day event. ".

The w32time question for example. The "sunday or 7 day" for example. The question about any significant event log enties for example.
