    xp slow

    Hi
I have an xp which has a slow startup and very slow when browsing the net. It takes quite a while for a page to load.
I regularly defrag and have avg (free) anti virus.
I know I can remove things from the startup folder but as I am not familiar with computer terms I don't know what should be there and what shouldn't
I would really appreciate some help
    Thank yoBiddie

Chances are you are dealing with two different issues.

Startup stuff - take a look at what Black Viper has to say about XP startup items and follow his advice. If any specifics don't make sense, post back with what they are and get more advice here.

Slow browsing - probably you have a load of spyware/malware that needs removing. AV software doesn't notice the stuff. Download, update, and run Ad-aware and then Spybot. Links to both in my signature.

Once you are done cleaning up, you can use this to configure your start up to your needs.
