    Hi

Does Mail washer bounce e-mails back as Spyware newsletter has just issued this warning about mail servers as this worm is spoofing the sender's email address. If you receive one of these emails, the person in the FROM: address is NOT the person who sent it to you.
I am not sure if this would apply to bounce back type software too.

The latest update about the spread of this is

Yes, bouncing is as bad (or worse) than the original spammers. I don't ever bounce anything.
I just let mailwasher catch, delete, and blacklist them.
I know the "FROM" is not correct, it's spoofed, from someone's address book.
I also never ever use Outhouse Express (or it's clones) for email.
Use a text (ascii) based email client (Eudora, Pegasus) and turn OFF, "Use MS Viewer ", and you stand a much better chance of surviving the onslaught. Coupled with a good anti-virus scanner that checks incoming and outgoing email (AVG does a good job here), you probably won't ever get a trojan.
Another hint; go into Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View, and set it to NOT "hide file extentions for known types ".
That way, if you get an email with an attachment, it will show in Outhouse Express with it's REAL file extention.
Most trojans have a .bat or .pif extention, which is normally invisible.

Thanks reboot, one of the things I have done is to make sure there are no hiden file extensions. I do place any security above any apsect of my computing to the point that some feel I am OTT with all my ways and programs. I would much rather be safe than sorry; I do have AVG Pro with TDS-3 which has an active Trojan watch. I have never bounced e-mails but neither have I used any filter software. I have few fairly new accounts which to date are not subject to this but I am aware that this will not stay trouble free.

My old ISP has still kept my e-mail accounts but I do not download anything from them as they do accumulate spam. The spam is in a separate folder - deleted eveyday plus the mail that does get into the inbox is 99.9% spam and it gets deleted too. I have never ever been tempted to open any of it.

I think we all need to forego any fancy fonts etc in our e-mails and stay with the plain text format. I am using Outlook but did try Pocomail which had excellent security features. I think I will have to double check any settings in Outlook to make sure I am as safe as I could be with this. One thing I am not curious enough just to have a wee look should anything arrive ;)

BTW there are security updates to Office today.
