    Myriad of grief

My power supply fan recently siezed. Again. I didn't notice it until after I had several problems with my XP Home, and had just finished a clean install when I noticed the fan wasn't turning. It was pretty hot in there.
After replacing the power supply, I tried to reboot. Windows hung on the Windows logo screen .. several times. Tried a clean install and it went thru loading all the files, but when it got to the step where it says "Starting Windows ", it hung. Many times. Changed processors and same thing. Tried 3 different drives and same result. Does anybody have any ideas? It is currently running fine on an old 3.5 GB drive that was preinstalled with Win2K, it just won't load up another drive.

My system: Gigabyte GA7-VAX board with Athlon XP 2700+, 384 MB 266 MHZ Crucial RAM, 20 GB Maxtor ATA 133 drive (Drive 0), Maxtor 40 GB ATA 133 drive (Drive 1), Windows XP SP1

It's possible that the motherboard got fried. Do you have any diagnositcs that came with your system? If so, do a full system scan to check for bad memory, and then have it do a full hard drive check. This will ensure that if anything is wrong with the PCI bus to the hard drive controller that it's detected.

If you post with a descriptive title, and in the Hardware forum, your post will draw more attention and possibly be answered by one of the experts.
