I have xp home edition and as far as I know I am logged on as the administrator. Can anybody tell me why I can't run gpedit.msc.On the user accounts it shows me as the administrator, guest account is off and I have asp.net machine limited account password protected. Why do I have this on my computer? I am totally up to date on microsoft.

    Many thanks:(

XP Home does not have the gpedit.msc feature. Even if you copied the file(s) from XP Pro, it still wouldn't work.

You'll be happy to know that Doug Knox has an XP utility that will add the Group Policy Editor to XP Home. You can get it here. There's a limited freeware version as well as a more comprehensive licensed version.

It's a user account created when you install the MS "update," Net Framework.

For most users, it's of no practical value. The official MS explanation: The Microsoft .NET Framework is a platform for building, deploying, and running Web Services and applications. It provides a highly productive, standards-based, multi-language environment for integrating existing investments with next-generation applications and services as well as the agility to solve the challenges of deployment and operation of Internet-scale applications. Source

It can be uninstalled through Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and its absence won't create any problems.
