    Mozilla 1.6 Released - January 15, 2004

    Download
    Release Notes

    What's New

    New Features and Fixes

    * One of the most requested Mozilla Mail features, an option to separate the Recipient and Sender columns in the thread pane, has been implemented.

    * Another frequently requested MailNews feature, a preference for placing the user's signature above the quoted text, has been added.

    * "Remove from server after x days" has been implemented for POP3 mail accounts.

    * vCard support has been added to Mozilla Mail.

    * Mozilla 1.6 includes a new cross-platform NTLM authentication mechanism. This feature brings NTLM authentication to the non-Windows Mozilla users for the first time and also delivers more robust and featureful NTLM support to users of older Windows versions.

    * Ask Jeeves searching has been added to Mozilla 1.6.

    * "Translate Page" functionality has returned to this release of Mozilla.

    * The View Source window now has reload functionality.

    * Several security-related bugs were fixed in 1.6

    * Chatzilla 0.9.48 has been merged, which adds RPL_ISUPPORT support, halfop mode support, and properly masks key and password dialogs.

    * Many crash bugs have been fixed.

    * One step closer to the kitchen sink, about:about has been implemented. Typing about:about in the address field will give the user a nice list of available about:s.

Download, install, and enjoy! I've been using Mozilla 1.6b for the last month, and found it to be as stable as 1.5, so fear not!

It's very nice boys and girls. Anyone else using Mozilla 1.6? Care to share your first day's experience?

    Mozilla 1.6

Just d/l the zip version (first time for zip) and tried it. Went in w/o a hitch. Placed it in the Program Files folder. Did uninstall 1.5 first -- just to be safe.

My German leaves a little to be desired. The translator made the difference. Now I can surf around those web locations with relative ease! I LIKE IT!

The Zip version just operates whereever you place it. Apparently no registry entries are used (???).

Anyway, just a few minutes exposure and I like Moz 1.6, big time!

I usually do not bother moving the .zip version from my Download folder, since it is temporary. I unzip it, copy the plugins folder of the previous build/version, and Send a shortcut to the Desktop. I love the unzipped versions because I do not have to be concerned about that crazy GRE folder.
My past experience with any Netscape/Mozilla has been negative, because I test all of them, and I want to keep Netscape7.1 as my default browser. This has been impossible because any related browser will hijack the default. In fact, I just dumped Moz1.5 which did the trick again.
I am looking forward at Moz1.7 where the bug appears to be fixed.
Where did you get the .zip file? I got no choice at the website.

    Mozilla Default??

Westside: You said it made itself your default browser, was that version 1.6a? I was just about to try it (install) as I'm an IE user for many years. I've used the Comminicators before, from 3.? -4.79. However, there's no Netscape in my pc's now! Too lazy to reinstall so far!! :D:D George.

    default browser - Moz 1.6

As best I can recall, the first time I fired it up, a window popped up asking if I wished it to be the default. I clicked yes. All of 1.5 settings remained in tact.

    HTH,
    Bob

    Default

Thanks for the reply. As long as it "asks ", I've no problem, trying it. I hate when an app, just "makes" it your default!!
Now it's time to try Mozilla!!:D:D. George.
