I am using NS 4.78. I have noticed that not all fonts installed in OS(WXP Pro) are available for Netscape Messenger mailer client. Is there a way to add fonts for use with Messenger?

    Welcome to the Forum, khonjo!

    Hi khonjo,

I just finished urging another Communicator user to upgrade their browser. Communicator is now obsolete, and you would have a much more enjoyable browsing experience if you were using Mozilla 1.6. Look at the Mozilla 1.6 Release Notes to learn more about this excellent browser.

    Import Fonts to Netscape Communicator
It is not possible to import fonts directly into Netscape, since Netscape uses the fonts provided by the Operating System. To use specific fonts in Netscape, install the font files into Windows directly. To do that, use the Install New Fonts command located under the File menu in Windows' Fonts control panel. For detailed help with this procedure contact Microsoft.

Once the new fonts have been added you should be able to select them for use in Communicator.

    To select the fonts:

From Communicator's Edit menu, choose Preferences. In the Preferences window, click the + to the left of the Appearance category to reveal the subcategories, then click the Fonts subcategory. In the Fonts window, select the font of your choice from the fonts window, and click OK.

Please note my question pertains to Netscape Messenger. Varieties of fonts available as shown in the pull-down list are only a part of what are installed in the OS. I am wondering if more fonts from those installed in the OS can be added to the list.

    Kaz,

Duly noted that you were referring to Messenger. However, to the best of my knowledge, it isn't possible to add a font to the drop down list in the Mail Composition window.

If there is a Windows font you wish to use, which is not listed in the drop down menu, then scroll to the end of the font menu, and select: "Other ". Type the name of the Windows font you wish to use, and it will be available to you for that mail only. It will not, however, be added to the available font list.

Your reply cleared my question. I have been using NS 3.x and then 4.x for many years but had never been in need of paying attention to the fonts. Thank you very much for your help.
