I am having a problem running NetMeeting through a router. I am running Windows XP Pro and as far as I can tell I have all the necessary ports designated yet no success being able to either connect to or be connected to another user with the same setup. I am using ADSL and he is using cable .. that is the only difference. I have made progress to the point that we can now connect but we do not seem to be able to have video nor audio access but we can use the message board. If ANYONE has any ideas; I have contacted the router company but they did not have the answers. I have as far as I know all the firewalls turned off in not only windows but the router as well. IF the other person does not go through the router I can connect to him but still no luck with him connecting to me (going through router)

If ANYONE has had a similar problem or has suggestions to this one I will sure be glad to hear from you.
    Thanks
    Lily

To establish outbound NetMeeting connections through a firewall, the firewall must be configured to do the following:
Pass through primary TCP connections on ports 522, 389, 1503, 1720 and 1731.

Pass through secondary UDP connections on dynamically assigned ports (1024-65535).

    The ports:

389 Internet Locator Server [Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)]
    522 User Location Server (TCP)
    1503 T.120 (TCP)
    1720 H.323 call setup (TCP)
    1731 Audio call control (TCP)
    Dynamic H.323 call control (TCP)
Dynamic H.323 streaming [Realtime Transport Protocol (RTP) over User Datagram Protocol (UDP)]

I tried Netmeeting through a router. When it didn't work, I started doing the research. Since I don't need Netmeeting and was only playing around with it, when I discovered what I would have to learn to use it through a router, I dropped it.

A pretty good explanation of what the problem is can be found on this page (they also want you to buy their software that solves the problem).

A Google search for "netmeeting audo router" will give you lots of links to resources.

Abraxas, thank you. I found that information when I first started this process and I did set up all those ports in my router and still no luck. The information claims to only be supported up to but not including Windows XP. I can not find information if it exists but I don't know it that means XP requires something different and I am thinking because MicroSoft is now promoting the Windows Messenger over NetMeeting the documentation just might not be readily available. I do know, though, having all those ports set up is not working for me. :(

Miz I am going to look into that proposed download for my problem as well as check out some of the links you referred me to. Thank you. I KNOW I have conferencing ability still because Yahoo Messenger works easily .. unfortunately we prefer NetMeeting quality and are determined to make it work lol

Thanks all .. any and all advice is appreciated.

Had same problem when I first started using netmeeting,
found that I could not get video or audio to work unless
I turned off the secure call features of netmeeting.
Once this was done picture and audio work as they are supposed to.

Good quality audio, with no lag or choppiness in video.

    Hope this helps.

Here we are talking about firewall and all the security features in our computers. But when it comes to netmeeting or video conferencing, we all say "what the hell" and disable all the internet firewall.
But, what the heck, everybody doing it and I just love video conferencing :) :D
