Have just made a clean install of XP Pro SP1 + critical updates to a new HD on new mobo Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe.

OE does not display the Dial-up Connection Dialogue box to connect when Send/Receive is pressed. Instead an error message is displayed 'An error occured while establishing the Dial-up Network connection BTOW (my ISP)'

If already connected to the Internet there is no problem with Send/Receive.

This problem does not exist on 2 other PC's running XP Pro + SP1 and was not present on the previous incarnation of this PC.

Have tried a repair/re-install of IE/OE and run sfc to no avail.

    Any thoughts?

If you have IE set to "never dial ", OE shares that setup.

    Hi Pete

have you tried creating a new DUN, same settings as the old one but choose a slightly different name, and then shifting IE and OE onto the new DUN connection

OK I was using W98 - but something extremely similar happened to me, I tried playing around with "Dial if no connection present ", "always dial default connection" etc till blue in the face :( with no joy

    - but shifting to the new DUN cured it.

problem had happened after I tried either reinstalling or upgrading IE/OE (forget which) onto a previously existing DUN connection...

    best wishes, HJ.

    Aleekat, HJ - thanks both

Aleekat - IE is/was set to 'Default Connection' - but .....

HJ - You hit the nail right on the head :D. After a couple of days feeding CD's into this new m/c the grey matter was a little addled. Clearly not thinking straight I had tried copying the DUN to no effect rather than deleting and creating a new one.

    Many thanks - problem solved.
