I heard that too many restore points on xp can cause it to slow down. Is this true? If so, where do I go to delete them?

    Hi kwilgo!

I don´t think that it actually slows down the OS but the default settings are to use up to 12% of the disk space for restore points. This is quite unneccessary and it is a simple task to limit/minimize the space.

Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop and choose Properties > System Restore

To clear all restore points, disable SR and then reenable it again.

To limit the size, click on each partition and put the slider where You want it. The minimum 200MB will give 5-10 restore points and when 200MB is reached, the oldest will get kicked out when a new one is created.

It only makes sense to have it enabled on the system partition with the OS. On pure data partitions, it can be disabled.

If You choose to disable and reenable SR, also go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore and make sure that a restore point was created when SR was reenabled.

    HTH,
    Christer
