For the life of me I can't figure out why it is doing this. When I boot with no XP cd present it gives the message "System disk error. Insert system disk and press enter" or something to that effect. I've checked all the bios settings and they seem to be fine. I can't think of why it is happening. I was hoping someone here could shed some light.

Disable the anit-virus checking in BIOS, and reinstall windows over top.
Probably because the anti-virus is active, it prevented the writing of the boot sectors to the hard drive during setup, thus no boot with no CD.

This is only a recent problem though and all the boot files seem to be there. I'm using the XP 8 in 1 cd to boot. On the boot menu it has an option for "Boot first Hard disk ". After selecting that it works fine.

    Something is corrupted.
Doesn't much matter what happened, the fix is to do an "over the top" install of windows to rewrite the boot sectors.
Recheck your BIOS settings, and make sure there's no bootable CD in the drive, nor bootable floppy. Get BIOS to redetect the hard drive (if you have that option), and set boot order to "C" only, or A, C, CDROM.

Found the problem. It was the burner that was causing all the issues. I think it was too old for the system. Pulled it out and it booted fine. Got a new 52x for it now and all is good as gold. Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated.
