I am looking for a file in my Tempory Internet Folder and I went to the Usual place to find it but I cannot find it anywhere. Can somebody tell me how to locate it?

Hmmm. That's where my "Temporary Internet Files" folder is located, along with cookies, etc.

In XP, it's in c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\tif...or somewhere nearby that.

Is this XP an upgrade from 98? If so, that's why.

IMO, the best way is to go to Internet Options. Under General > Temporary Internet files click Settings. Then click View files...

This is because sometimes we do not know where the Temporary Internet Files folder has been moved to.

    aussiejohn,

If you don't have your system set to show hidden files and folders, local settings folder will not appear when you go looking for it. Click tools>folder options>view tab and tick the box to show them.

aussiejohn - any true multi-user PC needs some way to keep the various user things apart. Nt4/2K/XP/ etc. do it by setting up a user area in Documents & Settings whenever a new user logs on.

Some info for general use is stored in All Users. Most of the standard new user setup stuff is stored in Default User. The folder with your username holds almost all of your specific information.

It can be a little confusing at first but it's also nice to know that when John logs on and opens the browser, he will only see the 'John" history, temp internet files, cookies, etc. rather than also having to deal with whatever Tom might have been doing.

My work PC is in a data center where any of the IS staff who come in may need to get on a computer. I work 2nd shift so mine is available all day. There are 25 user folders on it right now in addition to All and Default. But when I log on, I only see my own stuff including my desktop, favorites, recycle bin, etc. So it's worth any amount of additional structure they had to add to the OS.
