    Guys,

Just after I sent a request for Technical Support to the Gigabyte website, I noticed on the side of the motherboard box a little label which included "Pentium II/III 233 - 550MHz" and almost wept...

Rockster2U, thanks very much for confirming this for me; in fact, I am grateful to everyone here for all the advice and information.

I think I will just have to get a 550MHz CPU at some point and attempt to use the 600MHz CPU on another system (I have two, third may be in the making soon).

PeteC, thanks for your help here and for getting me looking in the right direction. I'm too scared to try flash update of BIOS, though. Too much at stake!

    Have a nice day!

Sorry to hear that - guess we all 'Live and Learn'.

May still be light at the end of the tunnel if Gigabyte reply.

    Hi there,

I finally got a reply from Gigabyte Global Support:

Nice to know they can still state the obvious. In any case, I already found out the max speed is 550MHz as I mentioned before.

The good news is that I've now found a PIII-550MHz CPU so I can speed my system up at last! :)
