When accessing the website www.redoute.co.uk the address title changes to www.redoute.co.uk/homepage.html
The homepage appears alright but when selecting a title such as homme(men) for the item page to appear nothing happens except a title at the bottom tool bar stating "error page" with
a yellow triangle and exclamation mark inside it. There is no
    error code.
I f I activate the Java logging enabled option, via internet options, I can access the options on the page. This is only after
deleting the /homepage.html out of the web address and re-enter.
Before Christmas, my wife could select the website from the favourites folder. History, temporary internet files and cookies have been deleted in an attemt to make it work.straight away. If we try to add the address to the favourites, the IE symbol changes to a Capital 'R'.( Redoute.)
My operating system is I/E 6 and Windows 98 version 2.
P.S. I can access all other websites, okay.

    Regards,
    MR.P.N.CROFT

    Hi Paul.

That site is certainly doing some interesting things with javascript. Way too much for my taste.

Are you running only the java pieces that come with IE? It's possible they did some evil things as part of a site update that is causing your problems.

Hopefully someone else who is not running the Sun Java (I am) will look at the site and see if the web designer just broke something. Meanwhile, I'd suggest you try a repair of IE (go to add/remove and when you click on it, repair should be an option).

I looked at the site, with IE6 Sp1, 98Se with the MS Java engine and it seemed to work fine. I looked at the Source Code of the page, and yes it does have way too much Javascript. This is the first page that when I went to View Source, and Wordpad was volunteered.

Wow. That site gave me several Active X prompts, AdSubtract blocked a bunch of referrer cookies, and the view source page was looooonnnngggg. Between Norton and AdSubtract, I seldom see ads, but that page was full of them, and they all bypassed the filters. I had no trouble viewing the site, but it defeated all the ad blocking software. There is a lot of Java in there, too. I have MS VM and Sun's Java with IE 6 on XP Pro.

What kind of firewall are you using? How are your IE security settings set? My guess is that you have something else interfering with IE, because that page is complicated and well done (from a technical standpoint!) The "R" favicon you see when you try to bookmark the page is expected, and will disappear in a day or two, to be replaced with the generic blue "e ", btw. The icon is behaving normally, and is not part of the problem.

Thanks Johanna and Newt for you quick reply's.

I'm gong to try the I/E repair tool first and then double check my settings.
The firewall that I am using is integrated with PC cillin (2003).
Also my wife is Japanese, and we do have a software called Japanese twin bridge which she has used for a few years before IE6 came out with the language options. This software is still on the computer but I do not think that will be causing a problem.

There are several alternatives that may be affecting this problem, as it is only happening on this webpage, and my wife can actually access it by a little tweaking on the address.

I will take the advice from you both and try a process of elimination, and check my security settings etc.

Will get back to you both with any news of progress.

    Thank's to you both, again

    Paul.

    To Newt, Johanna, and Mark62.

Thanks for your advice and help. I actually "cracked it" in the end by going into start, run, and typing inetcpl.cpl and clicking ok. This brought me onto the internet options to select the advanced tab. I then clicked to clear the JIT Complier for Virtual machine enabled. I then clicked ok (not apply and ok) and restarted my computer, this time using the internet explorer, and accessing the web site straight away.

By the way Johanna, you were right the "R " Favicon icon did change to I/E.

I did check my security levels and altered them to try and cure the problem. Also I tried the internet repair tool.

In the end I checked the Microsoft knowledge base which gives advice on how to trouble shoot Java problems. There I found a piece on "Java problems on one web site" so I followed the instructions as above.
I cannot say for certain that this cured the problem solely on it's own. I follwed your advice as well, and although the fault was still on up to me reactivating the JIT compiler, I would class this as a team effort.

    That's again.

    Cheers Paul.

Glad you got it sorted out. btw, if you want your favicons back for your bookmarks, try FavOrg It checks each site and restores the available ones. If you are on dial up, and you have a lot of bookmarks, you may want to live with the bue e, though.

    FAVORG

    Johanna,

Thanks again for the tip. At the moment I am on dial- up but I'm thinking of going Broadband later on in the year as I work for Bt and they sometimes have a good offere on for staff.

Also I am wanting to upgrade to XP so I will probably do both at the same time.

Thanks again Johanna for all your help.

    Cheers,

    Paul
