I connected to the USB port in my computer a Hard disk external, when turning on the HD I recived a massage that my USB port is not HI-speed and that's why it will preforme slower then normal, is there any software to install to make the USB connection work on Hi-speed.

    Thanks

What OS? If XP, you have to install Service Pack 1. It's the only place its found.

If some other OS, go here: http://www.usb.org/home

    Thanks RayH
Thanks for your replay, I m using WinXP Pro SP1, the USB port is recognised and working ok, when I connect my Hi-speed external HD I get a massage " I connected USB mass storage device , there r no Hi-speed USB host controlers installed on this computer. "
Is this a software problem or all the USB controlers on my computer r slow-speed USB controllers. I m using P4 motherboard with 1.7 GHZ proc.
    Thanks

It is possible that your motherboard does not support USB 2 - check out your manual or post your mobo details here. If you don't know exactly what it is run Aida32 and look under Motherboard.

A workaround is to install a USB 2 card.

Details of your mobo here .

I've read through the manual and nowhere does it say that the board supports USB2 (high speed USB), although there is provision for 6 x USB ports.

Seems like your only option is a USB2 card - if you have a spare PCI slot. I see from the manual that only 2 x PCI slots are provided.

It is not a question of the PCI slot supporting USB 2 - the USB 2 device is on the card - quote re. the Adaptec Connect USB 2 PCI card .....

" Now you can get compatibility with today's most popular peripherals and tomorrow's exciting new ones. The USB2connect 3100LP card from Adaptec enables your Mac or PC to work with both USB 1.1 and 2.0 devices through four high-speed ports. USB 2.0 is the fastest USB standard ever, supporting data speeds up to 480 megabits per second (Mbps). That's 40 times faster than USB 1.1, making USB 2.0 ideal for external storage devices, scanners, CD-RWs, and much more.

USB2connect is easy to use. Simply install the card and the Adaptec USB 2.0 Windows drivers, and your system is instantly ready to take advantage of USB devices, from the thousands of USB 1.1 products to the latest high-performance USB 2.0 peripherals. You also get the benefit of Adaptec's vast experience in making advanced technologies easy to use. Its cards are the standard that peripheral manufacturers themselves use to test the compatibility of new products. Don't limit your options with a card that only supports USB 1.1. Accelerate your peripheral support today with USB2connect! "

Just check that it will work with XP.
