Question Title: No Sound on WMP 7.1 Copies

I am running Wind. 98 SE and WMP 7.1 (in addition to WMP 6.4)
When I copy a file from a CD in the WMP 7.1 to the File Library, the file copies and appears in the Library & on my HD. The player PLAYS it (the lever moves etc), but there is no sound on the copied file. The file appears to copy OK.. the correct number of bytes are displayed.
Rights Management is NOT enabled. ( I DID try enabling that which made no difference)
I have been advised that I need to select "Digital Copying & Playback ", but when I try to do that, I receive a message that my player cannot read digital and it is switched back to "analog ". (The message appears whether the Rights Management is enabled or NOT enabled.)

This feature used to work at one time and I can still hear the copies I made during that time, I do NOT know what changed or happened, but ever since "it" happened, I have been unable to hear the copies . This is a long time problem...probably a year or more.
I have posted the question on the WMP NG, and was told that I need "Digital" to be enabled, which the player won't allow me to do at this point.
I have reinstalled my original download which did NOT change anything at all! (MP71.EXE)
Does anyone know "why" this has occurred or how to correct it?
    Otherwise, the player works fine.
    Thank you

    PRyan

    Patty Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

I'm sort of guessing here but it sounds like you're a victim of the misguided malware used in the © protection software which denies us our right to make a backup copy of a disk we paid for.
It is also possible that the uninstall/reinstall did not resolve the problem because some of the 1925 registry changes I recorded when updating WMP were left behind and are still denying you the right to make a backup copy of the disks you legally purchased.

Hopefully someone more knowledgable than me will provide a workaround solution for the problem.

    Rc, (?)

    Thanks for you reply!
That is kind of what I thought too...I think it may have been an update for the WMP at one time, but I really don't know.

I HAVE fouund that I'm not the only one with this problem. and some of those running the Series 9 player are having the same problem.

It really isn't all that critical of a problem, I DO have other ways to copy music, but it has kind of taken on a life if it's own...I guess you would call it "intelledtual curiosity ". I do have another player whch will make MP3's from CD's, but not WMA files! And the WMP WILL play WMA files, if they aren't "copied" ones!

I've usually found that "persistance" pays off...I've solved a number of problems by continuing to search for answers!

I had another one like that from a Windows Critical Update! Luckily, I was able to uninstall that one and solved the problem!

    Thanks again for your reply!

    Patty
