Occasionally I get a email with an attachment that I cannot bring up to read---I click on everything but nothing helps---It seems to happen with just this one friend----All other emails with attachments I have no problem with----What can I do to solve this problem----I don't mind missing an attachment or two but would like to know what to do when this happens---
    Thanks

    Hi Connor,

When you "click on everything" could you be more specific as to exactly what happens. Thanks!

Have you tried enabling and disabling the View | View Attachment Inline? Also, have you tried enabling and disabling the Preferences | Mail & Newsgroups | Formatting and try toggling between using HTML and plain text. This may or may not help.

What mail program does your friend use? I ask, because if it's OE, there are settings on his end that can be changed. The problem is not on your end. You might ask your friend to try changing some of his settings, and see if you can then access the attachments.

You could ask your friend to try a different ISP and even a different browser to send the attachment.
I've just posted my problem about Netscape Navigator, and frequently find that the browser can be as much of a problem as the service provider in impeding the function of e-mail or internet access.

If I click on the paper clip (attachment icon)nothing happens---Just a change in screen and then back to same picture---If I right click I get a pop-up menu with no help there---Was looking for properties but no properties on the menu--
Same thing when I click on the square in thelower left hand corner of the email--Nothing happens--Will check with friend and see if we can make the change on that end---
Should the checkmark be removed on enable javascript for mail and newsgroups---I thought that should be check marked at all times--
    Hope this helps--

    Hi Connor,

Should the checkmark be removed on enable javascript for mail and newsgroups---I thought that should be check marked at all times--

The checkmark should definitely be removed from JavaScript for Mail & Newsgroups. This is a security risk. JavaScript NOT for Mail & Newsgroups is safe, and can be enabled.

If I click on the paper clip (attachment icon)nothing happens---Just a change in screen and then back to same picture---

That's normal, and what I get too.

If I right click I get a pop-up menu with no help there---Was looking for properties but no properties on the menu--

Correct, there is no properties selection. There is, however, a "Save Link As " which is what you would select to save the attachment to your HD. There you would scan it with your AntiVirus before opening the attachment/picture.

Same thing when I click on the square in thelower left hand corner of the email--Nothing happens-- Will check with friend and see if we can make the change on that end---

The attachment should open in a new page when you click on the gif/image link, or jpg, or whatever the attachment indicates.

You didn't indicate whether or not your friend uses OE?

If it is OE (Outlook Express) you could ask your friend to use these settings and embed the picture in his email to you:

Ensure that the OE email is set for html in Tools | Options | Send. It's safer to have the settings for plain text, but can be changed to HTML temporarily. Also click on HTML settings and select "quoted printable" for the text coding and the option, "send Pictures with Messages ".

Then you open the email composition window and click on Insert and Picture and browse to the file on the hard drive.

    HTH,
