Start menu, task bar info

I've reinstalled XP after a HD crash and have these 2 Qs:

1) How do I get the network icon to appear in the task bar? It used to be there but I can't remember how to enable it.

2) When you shut down in XP there is a "Turn off Computer" option in XP now. I used to have it set to the old way: "Shutdown" (i.e. the menu without buttons), but again can't remember how I re-enabled that.

#1 - right-click the connection and select properties. Tick the box to display the icon.

When you choose "Turn off computer" from the start menu it opens a window with buttons to 'Standby, Turn off or Restart'. When I had XP installed b4 the crash, I had changed it to use the Classic or Old menu option "Shutdown" which opened a simple shutdown window. I find the buttons annoying and know I had changed that to the old/classic menu somewhere before (but can't find it now).

For Q #2 here:
Figured out how to revert back to classic shutdown menu:


To change the Shutdown screen/menu to classic mode:
-Control Panel; User Accounts; Choose the way users log on or off;
-UNcheck 'Use the Welcome screen' option (then apply options)


It will now use the old fashioned/classic shutdown menu.
