Recently I inherited an old 95 pc. I used an icon-extractor program and am now unable to view Gif, JPG, or Icon files, although I am still able to change my desktop icons...

What should I do to restore this function on my computer?

Hello, and welcome to the boards!
It seems the icon extractor changed your file associations. I am assuming that when you say that you cannot open any Gif, JPG files, you mean by doubleclicking them. No Open With window appear?
The quickest and easiest way is to go get Irfanview for free. It is a great program for most known graphic file types, shockwave flash presentations, etc, etc. If you get the plugins, you may be amazed at what this freeware will do.

Thanks! Since I posted I was able to reassociate the Gif and Jpg files with windows so I am ok there, only problem is now the icon files, though I can use them, do not appear as they did before (i.e. as themselves next to the file name) but perhaps I will figure this out eventually.

I've been visiting a few sites around the net finding out about 95 and different tricks/tweaks you can do to it. Knew it might be a problem when I tried the program, but ya takes yer chances!

I've since uninstalled the program, more trouble than it's worth, and yes I've worked with irfanview---a great free program!

    Thanks again...
