Anyone know what this means? During Defrag process in safe mode, received error message "General Protection Fault in Module KRNL386.exe." What's the best way to address this issue, so I can defrag successfully?

The message should specify the cause of the General Protection Fault (XYZ caused a General Protection Fault in ... etc).

    Defrag Error

    Thanks for the response Brett.

The error message read as follows:

Defrag caused a general protection fault in Module KRNL386/exe
0001:00001c36 (I can go on if these numbers/messages are meaningful?)

I did a search (find) for KRNL386.exe and when I clicked on properties, received another error message

Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.DLL at 015f:bff9dba7.

Any suggestions on what should I do?

    Clean out temp files.
    Did you run "scandisk" first?
Did you disable a screensaver, if any?
Use Windows ME "defrag ", instead of Win 98, which is a faulty application.
