I recently looked at some mail settings, and possibly changed something unwittingly.

The result is that the email now prints with about half a page of information: XUIDL, XMozilla Status, Xsending host, , Sending IP, and many more details. They are not visible on screen. We don't specially need all this, and it just makes every message a 2 page printing exercise.

How do I turn it off? Or is this coming from our ISP?

    Thanks

    Lucette

The headers are already set on normal.

This problem only affects the printing. On screen, we don't see all those details. Only printed.

    Any other ideas?

    Hi Lucette,

I just tried the Printing with Netscape 7.02, 7.1, and Mozilla 1.6b, and when I changed the settings to:

    View | Headers | Normal
only these four lines in the message header were printed:

    Subject
    From
    Date
    To

This should work for you too...

    Hi Ramona,

We already have these settings. It is as you say on screen.

Printed we get lots of other things.

For example, the email notification about your reply, shows:
    X-UIDL:
    x-Mozilla-Status:
    X-Mozilla-Status-2:
    Return Path:
    Received:
    X-Sending Host:
    X-Sending IP:
    Received:
    Received:
    Message-Id:
    X-Infini-Mail Scanner-Informaton:
    X-Infini-MailScanner:

Each of these items shows either one or two lines of information.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks

If you check your prefs.js file for this line:
    user_pref( "mail.show_headers ", 2);

It should be set to "1" or not exist. If you decide to manually edit the prefs.js file, Mozilla should be closed.

You can also use "about:config" within Mozilla, and search for mail.show_headers...
the status should be "default ", type "integer ", and value "1 ".

You could even try creating it yourself if needed, but you shouldn't have to. Restart Mozilla.

As a last resort, you can try creating a new profile (as a test), and print a few pieces of mail.

The only way I have been able to reproduce this is to change the view/headers setting to "all ".

    Tranquilo,

Thank you! Changed the setting in prefs.js, it was indeed on 2.

Now back to a more usual look

    Thanks again

Sounds good... for some reason switching the view/headers setting to "normal" wasn't sticking. You might want to make a note of this somewhere in case it happens again... ;)

    Lucetta,

Curious as to which Version of Netscape you are using?

    Good find tranquilo!

    It is version 6.2.3.

Thinking of changing to a newer one, but afraid of the "overly new "ones, all newest software has teething problems! So will maybe wait a while!

    Thanks again

No wonder you had problems. Netscape 6.x is full of bugs. Netscape 7.1 or Mozilla 1.5 (or latest stable version) are worth the trouble of an upgrade if you get an opportunity to test them.

FYI: Netscape is no longer developed, the brand is now a low cost isp.

    Tranquilo,

If it is no longer developed, does that mean it will not continue beyond 7.1?

In other words, Microsoft is the only one left?

Netscape will not continue past 7.1, but Mozilla, which Netscape is based on continues to be developed. When you have a moment, you should test it out (just be sure NOT to share a profile with Netscape). There is not much difference between the two... unless you access Netscape's webmail through the mail client.

    Netscape 7.1 = Mozilla 1.4/1.4.1
Mozilla 1.5 is the latest stable version.
