    Hi,
I have a home network with windows 2000 pro and windows 98se. trouble i've been haveing is that the win2k system see's the win 98 computer but is unable to access it. it'a unable to find the path.

the win 98 computer dose NOT see the W2K computer and neither of the two are able to ping the other either by ip address or by name.

Non of the ip address can be released or renewed on either computer, the W2K computer tell me that the adapter is not bound to tcp/ip though that is the only protocal installed, and the 98 computer cant find a DHCP server to renew the Ip address.

I did have this working at one time but now nomatter what i do it will net work.

the W2k computer is able to get online through a HPNA network and access shares on the network. the 98 computer was useing the w2k computer for internet access and file sharing with the w2k computer on a ethernet/hub set up.

any ideas on how to fix this issue?

Are you using only the phone line networking or do you also have regular ethernet network cards installed?

It is quite possible to have only TCP/IP installed and not have the adapter bound to that protocol. Not good, but certainly possible. Go to Help & Support, search for binding order and follow the directions there for checking how you are set up.

    Thanks Newt for the reply,
I am useing a thernet network also. it is for giving acces to the internet for the laptop computer which dose not have USB ports.

I am now able to get the two computers to talk and the laptop can get to the internet. I installed the Net BEUI protopcal and uninstalled norton system works from the laptop computer. for some reason Nortons was blocking acces to the network from the laptop, basicly blinding it as to what was going on.

For now I 'm going to leave NetBEUI installed on both computers, "Don't fix whats not broken." and see how things go for a while.

    Thanks again Newt,

    Knightstalker.

At a guess you had firewall issues.

Note that NetBeui will not be affected by a firewall. They just don't see each other.

But to clarify, things are working for you now?
