    Hi to all!

I have this 166gig hard disc drive and windows xp.

That 166gig drive didnt work, becouse i needed to install sp1 to get it work. So next i installed it and it worked good.

But now I have re-installed windows and sp1 and I cant see some of my files from that 166gig drive.

In my computer state there still reads that I have that 160/166gig room. So nothing should miss.

But still inside that driver there is that missing folder (Unknown application) so i cant go in. There is lost space room about 20 gigs and also about 10 gigs is missing from other folders too.

Do u know how i can get to that recover state? I tryed alot of things, but just cant get it work. Also I didnt find anything from this forum @ search button (Stypid foreigner). :( So if there is another question like this, pls paste link.

    Thank You all!

I don't understand why you needed the service pack to make the hard drive work. I also don't know what you mean by
Are you saying 30 Gigs of space is missing from your hard drive and there should be folders and files in there that you can't get to?

Windows XP without SP1 can only be put on a drive up to 137GB. When you format the drive, you should be given the option to install with or with out SP1 and ONLY 137GB will be formatted. You should be able to recover the unused space after updating and right clicking on the C: drive and selecting format. Or, there is software available that will allow you to connect old and new drive, boot to the old drive and from within windows, partition and format the entire new drive then copy your system to it. It also reconfigures the bios to see all of the drive. Data Lifeguard by Western Digital is one such software. If software came with your drive, it may do the same or similar thing.

Hey, thanks for the answer, Butt when I installed windows again: I removed c: and formated whole thingy again (only c: ). Then I came to windows_mode, installed newest updates and sp1 and it didnt work and I made this twice. So is there difference that I format c: in windows or did u mean c: as whole primary drive? I have only 5gigs in c: and rest in d: which is full. bios version is fine also. Last time I remember, when I had this samekind situation, it didnt work first, but after boot, it went automatically to recover mode before windows started (blue thingy in backround) and it started counting all lost files. :)

And before i try program, do i must have any extra room space. I have only about 5 gigs left in secondery drive.

I can of course install windows 2000 with sp3, which i have or I can remove all not-cool things from "speedy" primary drive, cos I always remove old ones and get new ones in short time to d:
Sorry, im quite confused overall and stuff with this 137 thingy.

Okay, let's back up and start from the beginning.

    1. I'm under the impression that you have a new 166GB hard drive on which you want to install XP (without SP1). Is that correct?

    2. If yes to #1, what is the make and model of the drive? Did you get software with it that enables large drive support?

    3. Assuming this is a new drive, is your old drive still working? Make, model and size?

    4. Do you want to keep the data on the old drive or go for a clean install?

    5. Do you want to put everything on 1 partition?

If you want to do a clean install, with the XP (without SP1) CD that you have, only 137GB of the drive will be recognized and formatted. If you tell it during setup that you have XP SP1 and you don't, it will format the entire drive, but the install will not work.
