indexing hangups

Windows XP starts indexing around 1 a.m. just when I need to use the system to file stories to my newspaper. How can I change the time that this service is performed and make it stick?

 

Most people probably shut Indexing off altogether. Do you use it?

If not, go to Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services, double-click it and disable.

 

You're so right, Abraxas. I wouldn't know how to use it if I wanted to. I thought it had something to do with keeping the filing system in order so that when you clicked on something, it would be there. You mean there's a file somewhere that indexes everything on the drives?

 

It makes an index of all the files to speed searching with the slow search that comes with XP.

Shut off indexing, save your drive the heartache, and get a better searcher:
