How do I get a "run" command to get added to the start list?

    Where did it go?

Right-click a blank spot on the TaskBar, choose Properties.
    Click the Start Menu tab.
    Click the Customize button.
Check the box next to Display Run.

    OK. Apply. OK.

Short version (sorry Abraxas, I couldn't help myself :D) ...

Right-click on the Start button, choose Properties.
    Click the Customize button.
    Check Display Run.

    OK your way out.

Note that the above applies only if you're using the Classic Start Menu. If using XP's default Start Menu ...

Right-click on the Start button, choose Properties.
    Click the Customize button.
    Click on the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to, and check, Run command.

    OK your way out.
