Windows sounds

    Any WindowsXP registry experts?

    My windows sounds, like new mail, have quit playing. They are set up correctly and still play with the test button so I'm assuming the problem is in the registry. Any suggestions on where to look?

    Hi dennya1 - Welcome to the Board :)

    Have you checked that a sound scheme is set in Control Panel > Sound. Basic I know, but Windows has been known to drop such settings.

    Then look here for some tips - s = sound

    This seems to be a common problem now. And the mysterious part is that all sounds work except System sounds.

    Do you have Nero Ultra or NeroMix, by any chance?

    I have Nero Express, is that the cause of the problem?

    The sounds are back! PeteC's Url above suggested some registry changes, and one of them worked!

    I really appreciate your help. Have been hunting for this fix for about six weeks. It was no big deal, but sure irks me when I can't find an answer to a problem.
